Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a singer who was born in Newark New Jersey on the 9th August 1963. Their parents include gospel singers Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard), and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick is also a singer. The mother of Whitney Houston and her daughter began singing professionally at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark at the age of 15 years old. The two sang backing vocals for Chaka Khans 1978 track Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine, and Lou Rawls were a few of those who she sang with. She was also briefly as a model for Seventeen Magazine in 1981. The singer began her career as a lead vocalist with the funk group from New York, Material as well.
